Modes of Admission to Engineering Programs

Entrance Test – JEE Main, JEE Advanced, BITSAT, VITEEE, State-Level  Entrance Exams, etc.

Direct Admission – Direct admission allows students to secure a seat in an engineering college without qualifying in state or national entrance exams, usually by fulfilling certain eligibility criteria.

Management Quota – Management quota admission is a way to get admission in private engineering colleges where a certain percentage of seats is reserved for students who do not qualify for regular merit-based admission through entrance exams like JEE Main or state-level exams.

Lateral entry Admission Lateral entry allows students to join the 2nd year (3rd semester) of a B.Tech/B.E course directly, bypassing the first year.

Eligibility Criteria for BTech Admissions

Academic Qualification:
Candidates must have passed Class 12 (10+2) or an equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) as compulsory subjects from a recognized board. The minimum aggregate percentage required typically ranges from 45% to 60%, depending on the exam or state regulations. Relaxation in marks is provided to candidates belonging to reserved categories as per government norms.

Age Limit & Attempts:
The age and attempt limits vary by examination. For instance, JEE Main has no age limit, while certain state or private university exams may specify their own criteria. Candidates are advised to check the specific eligibility rules of each exam they intend to apply for.

Lateral Entry (LEET):
Candidates holding a Diploma in Engineering or an equivalent qualification are eligible for direct admission into the 2nd year of the BTech program through state-level LEET exams or counselling processes.

Eligibility Criteria for MTech Admissions 2026

Academic Qualification:
Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology (B.E./B.Tech) from a recognized university or institution. Some universities also accept MSc, MCA, or equivalent degrees for specific specializations. The minimum aggregate marks required usually range from 50% to 60%, with relaxation for candidates from reserved categories as per government norms.

Entrance Exams:
Admission to MTech programs is primarily based on GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) scores. However, some universities conduct their own entrance tests (e.g., SRMJEEM, BITS HD, VITMEE, TANCET) or consider state-level exams.

Age Limit:
There is no specific age limit for MTech admissions. Candidates can apply as long as they meet the academic and entrance exam criteria.

Part-Time / Sponsored / Distance MTech:
Professionals working in industries or research organizations may apply for part-time or sponsored MTech programs, subject to relevant work experience (usually 2–3 years) and employer sponsorship.

Lateral Entry / Direct Admission:
Some universities offer direct admission to GATE-qualified candidates or based on merit in the qualifying degree for management quota seats.
